DeBary shooting clues released by Volusia deputies

Investigators with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office released two clues after the non-fatal shooting of a DeBary man early Thursday.

The public is asked to identify a possible shooter with a distinctive cropped hairstyle who was driving a 2009-2014 Volkswagen Golf/GTI.

Deputies are looking for the shooter who attacked a 36-year-old man outside his home after 5 a.m. in the 300 block of Pine Springs Drive. That’s in the Parkview Heights subdivision.

Victim Kirk Thomas was transported to Central Florida Regional Medical Center in Sanford with multiple, non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to his leg.

Images similar to the suspected shooter and the vehicle were released on Friday.

They are not images from security systems. Officials selected images from online sources based on what they’ve learned through their investigation.

“The vehicle is believed to be a silver 2009-2014 Volkswagen Golf/GTI similar to the one in the attached photo,” Andrew Gant, a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office, said in an email. “Also attached is an example of the hairstyle we believe the suspect had at the time of the shooting.”

The shooter was “described as an 18- to 25-year-old Hispanic male with dark hair, about 5’6″ to 5’8″ and about 160 pounds,” Gant’s email stated.

The victim said he was leaving for work when a vehicle pulled behind him and the attacker got out an approached him.

“When Thomas saw the suspect had a gun, he prepared to defend himself, and the suspect fired several shots at him,” Gant said in an earlier statement.

The investigation is ongoing and no other details were released.
