For some Americans, July brings excellent news: starting today, a fresh $1,000 stimulus payment will be mailed out. Find out more about the distribution of $266 million in rent and property tax rebates to thousands of Pennsylvanians.

Governor Josh Shapiro has announced an expanded program that will start with rebate checks on July 1st and help Pennsylvanians who are older and more disabled. Governor Shapiro arrived at the Upper Darby Senior Center on Monday accompanied by a number of government officials and his top financial advisor. In order to announce that certain seniors will soon receive state subsidies, the governor traveled to Delaware County.

Pennsylvania has the fifth-oldest population in the nation, which makes it harder and harder to keep older, less well-off people in their homes. Shapiro and the legislature have “pumped up” the two-decade-old Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program to include over 440,000 homes with a total of $260 million.

What qualifications must one meet in order to be eligible for the new $1,000 stimulus payment?
Individuals with disabilities, widows or widowers 50 years of age or older, and those 65 years of age or older are eligible to receive this stimulus payment.

The amount granted will differ based on a number of variables, such as the income and property tax payments of each applicant. Requests for this return must be made by the end of 2024 because it is not guaranteed. The Department of Revenue’s district offices or state legislatures may handle the process directly.
