15-year-old boy arrested after Monroe County police chase

(FOX 2) Monroe County, MichiganFollowing a police pursuit on Sunday night, a 15-year-old motorist is currently in custody.

We know:

Around 8 p.m., Lt. Jeffrey Ellington attempted to stop a car on E. Third Street, east of S. Monroe Street, but the driver fled, reaching 60 mph on the 25 mph street, according to Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough.

According to investigators, that pursuit was immediately ended, but a second one began shortly after when Monroe Public Safety Department officers saw the car on Winchester Street close to E. Elm Street.

Jacob Llewellyn, a Monroe County Deputy Sheriff, joined the pursuit on northbound I-75 close to Dixie. According to officials, the driver proceeded into Frenchtown Township before heading back to Monroe. When he pulled into a property on Navarre Street, he was apprehended.

The chase did not result in any injuries.

Next steps:

The 13-year-old passenger was returned to family members, while the 15-year-old driver was arrested for evading and running away.

The driver is currently awaiting charges at the Monroe County Youth Center.

What is unknown to us:

The initial reason for the traffic stop was not disclosed by the authorities. Additionally, they did not disclose the owner of the car the teenager was operating.
