$4.4M Fund Injected To Revitalize Affordable Housing In Three Mid-Michigan Cities

FLINT, MI – More than $4 million will be given to three local housing commissions by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to provide affordable housing in the middle of Michigan.

In Bay, Saginaw, and Genesee counties, funding will support housing revitalization and modernization efforts, including energy-efficient modifications.

Congressman Dan Kildee stated, “I’m proud to have secured this federal funding to help lower costs and ensure affordable housing for all mid-Michigan families.”

“I thank the Flint, Saginaw, and Bay City Housing Commissions for the important work they do in our community. Everyone deserves access to a safe, affordable, and healthy home.”

Among the award recipients was the Flint Housing Commission, which was given $2,038,586.

The head of the Flint Housing Commission’s Board of Commissioners, Geraldine Redmond, stated, “We appreciate Congressman Kildee’s continuous support for the program.”

“With the help of these funds, we will be able to keep up our promise to provide Flint residents reasonably priced, high-quality homes.”

The Saginaw Housing Commission and the Bay City Housing Commission both got federal funding totaling $1,668,721 and $717,571, respectively.

Karl Opheim Sr., assistant director of the Bay City Housing Commission, stated, “We will use the 2024 Capital Fund Grant fund we received for capital improvements to our public housing scattered site portfolio.”

“We intend to concentrate on roof and electric service panel replacements for this program year.”
