78-year-old woman fatally struck by semi-truck after running red light in Sterling Heights

A car was engaged in a fatal collision on Mound Road.

(FOX 2) STERLING HEIGHTS, MIAccording to authorities, a 78-year-old woman died after being hit by a semi-truck after running a red light.

According to the police, she was driving east on 17 Mile Tuesday shortly after noon in a silver Toyota Highlander.

She was recognized by the police as a Sterling Heights resident.

She ran a red light at the junction with Mound Road around 12:50 p.m. A semi-truck was driving north on Mound Road in the meantime.

The woman was hit by a semi-truck as she was crossing the junction.

Debris was strewn across the road and the car she was in had significant front-end damage.

For more investigation, police closed the intersection.
