Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium roof collapses in scary scenes as huge chunk of metal falls onto field before Texans game
DALLAS COWBOYS abandoned plans to open the roof of the AT&T Stadium when a piece of metal fell from the roof two hours before their loss to the Houston Texans.
TheCowboyswere beaten 34-10 by theTexanson Monday night as they suffered a fifth successive loss.
The hosts were hoping to have the roof open for the game, but tore up those plans when scrap metal fell onto the field while it was being retracted.
Nobody was hurt by the falling debris.
The Cowboys later put the reason for the incident down to high winds.
A statement from the team read: “We can confirm a piece of metal came loose and fell to the field [with some additional small debris] while the roof was in the process of opening.

“There were no injuries. It is being reviewed further, and a decision regarding the ability to re-open the roof safely will be made when possible.”
Meanwhile, team owner and general manager Jerry Jones added: “Certainly, there was no risk at all to anybody on the field playing once we shut the roof and again.
“Got a lot of wind gusts in this area this afternoon, and apparently that created some looseness up there. And then when the wind, when we did try to open it up, the wind got in there and exacerbated the looseness.
“They wouldn’t have started this game had there been any risk at all. And not only theNFLwouldn’t, but I wouldn’t if there’s any risk at all. And there was no risk at all when they started the game.
“The reason they do that is to make sure everything is working to avoid those kinds of risks if there’s any fans or anybody in here.”
Prior to the start of the game, a piece of metal was bolted to the frame to ensure nothing else came loose.

The Cowboys’ have not had the roof opened for a game in two years.
The AT&T Stadium was opened in 2009.
