Man buys ‘dead’ Porsche for just $700 as ‘no one was interested’ – then he realises easy fix means it’s now worth $7,000
A MAN who bought a broken Porsche for just $700 was delighted when a simple fix was able to get it running again.
Popular YouTuber Samcrac is known for buying exotic sports car for cheap prices – usually because they need serious repairs done to them.
In a recent video, the gearhead picked up a first generation Porsche Cayenne S that was advertised as undriveable for a bargain $700.
Sam added: “We’ll hit the bid on it, we’re gonna win it. It’s been running for days.
“Nobody wants it. And it’s local.”
Sam first explains that he noticed the car’s information screen showed two different error messages, with one showing an ignition lock fault and another a brake proportioning error.

He decided that the car was worth taking a risk on, as he was fairly sure the issue would be fixable.
But if it wasn’t, it had only cost him $700, and he’d likely still be able to make some money by selling off the parts of the car.
Upon buying the “dead” Cayenne, Sam and the tow driver who delivered it had trouble unloading it from the truck, as it was locked in Park, meaning Sam had to figure out a way to unlock it and roll it off the truck.
He was then able to start the car s engine – something the ad said wasn t possible – although it later died on him when he tried to start the car the next day.
Using his prior knowledge of the Cayenne S, Sam explained that many versions of the model had issues relating to faulty wiring.
In this instance, the high-class SUV had waterlogging problems which had seemingly corroded some wiring – causing the errors.
After re-connecting the wire with a simple fix, most of the car s errors disappeared and the engine was able to start up and idle smoothly.
From here, all the car needed was a few minor repairs and good polish, and it’s now worth some $7,000 – 10x what Sam originally paid for it.
Sam said: “We turned this car that was dead according to the auction into one that can run and drive, which is pretty neat.”
Porsche recently confirmed it will break from 60 years of traditionby removing two iconic design features from the new 911.
The German brand is notoriously resistant to tweaks of its flagship model, which debuted in 1964, but has given it an overhaul for the release of a hybrid version.
The company said it had “fundamentally upgraded” the popular sports car, but some fans are less convinced by the removal of two interior elements in favour of some new tech.
This comes as it was revealed thatPorsche drivers can get two years of free chargingif they purchase a brand new Macan priced at $94,000.
The German brand s hugely popular junior SUV has gone fully electric – with the entry-level version finally available to buy.
