Pastor Tony Campolo dead after health battle as tributes pour in for preacher who was Bill Clinton’s spiritual adviser

After a protracted health battle, a beloved preacher who rocked the evangelical church with appeals for social justice has passed away.

After a lifetime of political activism and Christian ministry, Tony Campolo passed away at the age of 89.

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Campolo spent his illustrious 65-year career writing 35 books and serving as an advisor to former President Bill Clinton.

In an attempt to influence his parishioners to change, he was quick to criticize Evangelical leaders and made some enemies by drawing attention to the suffering of people worldwide.

The divisive preacher would often begin his lectures by informing his audience of the number of children who had perished from starvation the previous day.

He would remark, “And most of you don’t give a s**t,” according to Christianity Today.

Born in 1935 to Italian immigrants, Campolo grew up in a multicultural neighborhood after his family began going to a church that was predominately Black.

His upbringing influenced his views on social issues and cast doubt on how the Evangelical church handled racism and poverty.
