New 20ft long giant armoured dinosaur discovered with species boasting killer club tail & weighing THREE TONES
The discovery of a brand-new, 20-foot-long, three-ton massive armored dinosaur species has scientists perplexed.
A new species of armored dinosaur that formerly roamed ancient China has been discovered by a team of palaeontologists.
The incredible fossil was found in layers from the Campanian age of the Late Cretaceous period, some 84 to 72 million years ago.
In Longxi village, Jiangxi Province, China, the fossilized remains of a dinosaur were discovered in the Tangbian geological formation in 1986.
The armored dinosaur, now known as Huaxiazhoulong shouwen, is thought to have been about 20 feet tall and weighed an incredible three tons.
Its strong club tail, however, was its most menacing feature.

Any predator would have been able to suffer fatal injuries from this weapon.
The vertebrae, ribs, limb bones, and tail bones are all present in the nearly complete fossil of the dreadful beast.
Its shoulder blades indicate that its shoulder muscles were well-developed and capable of doing a great deal of digging.
The ischium, a vital bone that forms the lower portion of the hip, is another distinctive feature of the Huaxiazhoulong.
This suggests strong legs that allow for agile darting.
Additionally, the beast fossil’s asymmetrical tail club suggests that it might have had a preferred swing direction, such as left-handed or right-handed.
The fact that the dinosaur was a herbivore might surprise you.
It was a member of the family Ankylosauridae, which was distinguished by its tail clubs and armor.
In the study report, the experts affirmed that it “is an early member” of the dinosaur family.
Between 165 and 66 million years ago, during the Late Jurassic and Late Cretaceous periods, ankylosaurids dominated the planet.
The “largest ankylosaur ever found in China” is another possibility.
Ankylosaurs were quadrupedal dinosaurs with incredibly powerful limbs to support their weight and bone plates imbedded in their skin.

In the Late Jurassic and Late Cretceous eras, they lived in North America, Asia, and Europe.
The finding provides fresh insight into the variety of dinosaurs that existed during the Late Cretaceous.
Why did the dinosaurs die out?
What you should know is this…
- The dinosaur wipe-out was a sudden mass extinction event on Earth
- It wiped out roughly three-quarters of our planet s plant and animal species around 66million years ago
- This event marked the end of the Cretaceous period, and opened the Cenozoic Era, which we re still in today
- Scientists generally believe that a massive comet or asteroid around 9 miles wide crashed into Earth, devastating the planet
- This impact is said to have sparked a lingering impact winter , severely harming plant life and the food chain that relied on it
- More recent research suggests that this impact ignited major volcanic activity, which also led to the wiping-out of life
- Some research has suggested that dinosaur numbers were already declining due to climate changes at the time
- But a study published in March 2019 claims that dinosaurs were likely thriving before the extinction event
