Former deputy prime minister John Prescott dies aged 86 as family pay tribute

After a fight with Alzheimer’s, former deputy prime minister John Prescott passed away at the age of 86.

After suffering a stroke in 2019, he was living in a care facility and passed away “peacefully” in the company of his loved ones.

Lord Prescott’s wife and two sons released the following statement upon learning of his passing: “We are deeply saddened to inform you that our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, John Prescott, passed away peacefully yesterday at the age of 86.”

They claimed that he “spent his life trying to improve the lives of others, fighting for social justice and protecting the environment” .

From 1997 to 2007, he was a member of the Labour Party and the deputy prime minister.

For an astounding 40 years, Lord Prescott served as Kingston upon Hull East’s Member of Parliament.

His relatives stated that he “dearly loved his home of Hull and representing its people in Parliament for 40 years was his greatest honour.”
