Pep Guardiola’s new Man City contract officially confirmed as TWO-YEAR deal as threat of punishment over charges looms
PEP GUARDIOLA has extended his contract with Manchester City by two years.
In the middle of a legal dispute with the Premier League, the 53-year-old’s current contract was set to expire at the end of the current campaign.
Guardiola was expected to sign a new rolling one-year agreement, according to earlier reports.
However, the renowned Spaniard has extended his stay until at least 2027, so that is no longer the case.
On X, City made the announcement.
A brief, close-up video of the former Barcelona manager’s eye was used by the team to tease the news.
“Manchester City means so much to me,” Guardiola stated. I’ve been here for nine seasons.
“Together, we have had a ton of incredible experiences. I feel a really unique connection to this football team.
“I am thrilled to be staying for two more seasons because of this.
With luck, we’ll be able to add additional trophies to the ones we’ve already earned. I’ll be concentrating on it.
He might spend up to eleven years at the Etihad.
After Manuel Pellegrini left City in 2016, Guardiola joined the team.
Pep’s greatest of Haal time
Written by Neil Custis
Pep Guardiola was praised by ERLING HAALAND as the best manager of all time.
After Manchester City manager Pep agreed to a new two-year contract to remain at the Etihad, the Premier League winners are now trying to persuade their star striker to do the same.
And the Spaniard was saluted by Haaland, who has 105 goals in 114 games for City.
According to the 24-year-old Norwegian, he is the world’s greatest manager. We all realize, I believe, that he is most likely the greatest person to have ever lived.
Haaland, who cost 51 million dollars to acquire from Borussia Dortmund in July 2022, played a crucial role in City’s first-season treble of the FA Cup, Premier League, and Champions League.
He also helped Guardiola’s team win the Premier League for the fourth consecutive season last season.
The prolific striker attributes all of City’s achievements to the former manager of Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
Haaland continued, “I’m really happy and you can see that when I play. I expected a lot from him, and he has been delivering up to this every single second.”
In addition to winning six league titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups, the Champions League, and the Club World Club, Guardiola joined City from Bayern in the summer of 2016.
He won two Champions Leagues with Barcelona and three titles each with Bayern Munich.
Despite City’s fears that he would depart at the conclusion of this season, the 53-year-old has agreed to a new contract.
According to SunSport this week, Etihad executives feel that Pep’s commitment will increase their chances of Haaland accepting a 100 million dollar offer.
Barcelona has been mentioned as a potential suitor for the striker. However, Haaland has two years remaining on his contract of $375k per week plus bonuses, and he is scheduled to return to Premier League play tomorrow against Spurs.
Guardiola, meanwhile, is confident that he will know when it’s time to leave.
“I like my job and I like being here,” he remarked.
I have often stated that even with a contract, I will call my chairman and CEO and tell them that it would be better for the club if I left as soon as I no longer felt that way.
I’ve extended because I don’t feel that way at the moment.
He has now signed four contract extensions with City.
Pep acknowledged: I often say it’s been two years since I signed the deal, and we’re still here. To be honest, my crew and I deserve to be here. After four consecutive losses, we deserve the opportunity to recover.
Since midfield star Rodri suffered a severe knee injury in September, City has faltered and will have a difficult time holding onto the title.
We have won one [Community Shield] this season, and while we might not win the others, that is not the issue, Pep continued.
The issue is what to do next and what choices we must make to remain there. Continue to be a strong team.
He finished second in the all-time list behind former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson (13) with 18 trophies throughout his career playing English football, including six Premier League crowns.
However, because of the club’s legal dispute with Premier League bosses, there had been conjecture over his future in recent weeks.
The tenth week of the hearing into City’s alleged violations of Financial Fair Play has begun.
There are presently 115 allegations against the city for their financial transactions from 2009 to 2018.
The Prem giants might be subject to severe punishment if convicted.
They can even lose their place in the top level.
However, it is acknowledged that Guardiola will not have a break provision in his contract.
Accordingly, the outcome of the club’s hearing into the allegations and City’s relegation will not have an impact on his new contract.
SunSport is aware that, even though the regulations permit it, it is improbable that the Cityzens would be eliminated from all contests.
Guardiola has agreed to stay, therefore he will have to guide City through the storm of any penalty they may be given.
He made City the second English team to win the Treble (Prem, FA Cup, and Champions League) in 2022–2023 following Ferguson’s 1998–1999 squad.
His squad became the first to win four straight Premier League titles last season, making history.
Guardiola’s current contract is identical to the ones he signed in November 2020 and November 2022.
Additionally, the decision to extend eliminates any possible issues with a managerial changeover during the busy summer when City will play in the Club World Cup in America.
City – second in the table, winless in four, and four points behind leaders Liverpool – return to action at home to Tottenham on Saturday.
“I felt I could not leave now, simple as that,” Guardiola added. Perhaps it was because of the four losses. The club seemed to still want me.
First of all, I feel loved since we won so much. But you have to win because it’s a business. I have a contract but I know if we don t win I won t continue.
The club will be aware as soon as it is finished. And at this moment we didn t feel it.
Every time I signed the contract I say it s the last two and still we are here.

So honestly myself and my staff, we deserve to be here. I m not arrogant to say it, it s the truth. We deserve the chance after four defeats in a row to bounce back and try to turn the situation.”
This is the first time Guardiola has endured such a streak of losses – excluding penalty shootouts – in his managerial career.
