Target confirms stores will close down for entire day in retail blackout – but shoppers will soon see early hours switch

A retail blackout will occur when TARGET confirms that it will close all of its locations for a whole day.

However, consumers will soon be able to browse 1,963 stores across the country in the early hours of the following day.

Target has announced that it would not be open on Thanksgiving, November 28.

“To give team members the chance to spend time with family and friends, Target stores will once again be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 28,” the retailer stated in a statement.

“Target’s commitment to close stores on Thanksgiving in its fifth consecutive year is made possible thanks to its team and ability to meet consumers’ holiday needs within and well beyond store hours.”

However, Target stores will open early at 6 am local time on Black Friday, which is this year on November 29.

Target stated that new Taylor Swift products, such as the CD and vinyl versions of The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology and Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour Book, will be available for purchase before they sell out.

Additionally, Target is giving the $99 yearly memberships a 50% discount from November 10 to December 2.

As long as they are made two hours before to the closing time of their local shop, regular customers can still use Drive Up and Order Pickup for same-day purchases.

‘TIS THE SEASON

Target’s chief stores officer, Mark Schindele, stressed that the store would be the best place to purchase Christmas presents in 2024.

“Target is the place to be on Black Friday and all season long with incredible deals on thousands of items across every category and exclusive in-store items you’ll want to pick up for everyone on your gift list this year,” Schindele stated in the press release.

“With extended store hours, convenient same-day pickup and delivery options, and around-the-clock online availability, you can choose when, where, and how to shop, and our fantastic team will be there to deliver.”

Starting the day following Black Friday on November 30 and continuing through December 23, Target stores around the country will be open from 7 a.m. to midnight as part of their commitment to remaining open throughout the season.

In addition to providing customers with plenty of time to purchase holiday-related necessities and presents, the extended hours from Black Friday through December 23 also compensate for Target’s yearly Thanksgiving (November 28) closure.

Similar to Walmart, Target has closed for the holiday for the fifth consecutive year in order to “provide team members with the opportunity to spend time with family and friends,” according to the press release.

Target’s loyalty scheme

Target Circle 360, the company’s first premium membership club, was introduced in April.

Members can enjoy the following benefits for $99 per year:

  • Unlimited, free same-day delivery on orders over $35
  • An extra 30 days to return your items
  • Free two-day shipping on 100,000s of items
  • 5% off in-store and online
  • Automatic deals and exclusive partner perks

DEALS FOR DAYS

Although they won’t be available for pickup until Black Friday, customers who are in a hurry to purchase things for Thanksgiving can still place orders online and through Target’s mobile app.

The announcement states that normal business hours and activities would continue on November 27, the day before Thanksgiving.

In order to avoid having to wait until the day of the sale, Target buyers should also remember that Black Friday sales begin on November 24 and last on November 30.

With “twice as many Black Friday weekend deals” as in 2023, the retailer hailed the sales as its “best-planned prices of the season.”
