Jos also engaged professional firms to look into the disappearance of his daughter.

Who was Sigrid Foles?

Anabel’s mother was Sigrid Foles.

Originally from Germany, she and her husband Jos relocated to Spain after he opened a business in her native country.

The oldest daughter of Sigrid and Jos was named Anabel.

Sigrid and her younger daughter Sandra were in Marbella when Anabel was kidnapped.

What happened to their daughter Anabel Segura?

Anabel, an ICADE University business student, was abducted on April 12, 1993, while running in the posh La Moraleja neighborhood of Madrid.

After being abducted, Anabel was tragically killed six hours later in an abandoned Toledo factory.

Her abductors allegedly demanded up to 150 million pesetas (900,000) in 14 calls between 1993 and 1995, and they persisted in seeking ransom for years after that.

What happened to Jos Segura N jera and Sigrid Foles?

Sigrid and Jos never gave up on finding their daughter alive during the 900-day kidnapping probe.

On September 28, 1995, the family’s suffering was finally over when Ortiz Aon and Mu ño Guadix were taken into custody after a member of the public recognized the latter’s voice from aired recordings of the ransom calls.

The location of Anabel’s body was disclosed by the abductors, who also admitted to the crime.

Anabel’s family was finally able to have a funeral for their daughter when the suspects guided police to her remains in an abandoned warehouse close to Toledo, around 40 miles south of Madrid.

The distraught pair, understandably, avoided the public spotlight following the horrific revelation, and there are no reports on their current whereabouts or activities.

“Anabel’s parents are not dominated by hate but they want the full weight of the law and justice against the kidnappers and killers of Anabel,” stated the family attorney, who was present at a crowded press conference on the day her body was discovered.

One of the killers died in prison, the other was set free

The Spanish Supreme Court sentenced Ortiz Aon and Mu ez Guadix to 43 years in prison each for their roles in the kidnapping and murder.

Ortiz Aon passed away in prison in 2009 at the age of 48.

But on November 27, 2013, Mu iz Guadix was released from prison when the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) rendered a decision that had an impact on the implementation of Spain’s Parot doctrine.

A 2006 Spanish court decision known as the Parot doctrine altered the way that severe offenders were sentenced to jail.

By applying reductions to each individual crime rather than the whole sentence, it effectively lengthens prison terms.

After this contentious practice was abandoned in 2013 after being found to be a violation of human rights, Mu oz Guadix was released.
