Two backpackers, 20 & 21, who drank ‘methanol-laced booze’ before ‘vomiting blood for hours’ at Laos hostel among 6 dead

Pictured are two Danish women who died tragically in Laos from what is believed to have been methanol intoxication.

According to reports, Anne-Sofie Orkild Coyman, 20, and her friend Freja Vennervald, 21, consumed the infected alcohol and vomited blood for 13 hours before to their deaths.

According to the Daily Mail, the two had been backpacking across South East Asia on the vacation of a lifetime.

In recent weeks, they were among the first six international visitors to Vang Vieng, Laos, to pass away.

The women are believed to have perished as a result of consuming alcoholic drinks containing methanol, a deadly substance that is occasionally offered to vacationers in lieu of high-quality ethanol.

Four other people, including a British woman, have perished since the sad apparent mass poisoning that occurred around November 12.

Last week, Simone White, 28, of Kent, and two 19-year-old Australians who were visiting from Melbourne died.

James Louis Hutson, a 57-year-old American, also passed away.

Simone’s mom is devastated. “They had to wait an hour for the ambulance, and by the time they got there, Simone was delirious and had trouble breathing,” Sue White previously told The Sun.

“I believe that it has already had an impact on her brain.

Up to twelve travelers—five of them are Britons—remain hospitalized.

Freja and Anne-Sofie, who were born in Roskilde, which is located west of Copenhagen, loved to travel.

Before saving money for the major trip to South East Asia, they had been to Italy and Hungary together the previous year. Once they arrived in Laos, they checked into the Nana Backpackers Hostel.

The hostel’s owner said that among the 100 other visitors, Australian victims Bianca Jones and Holly Bowles received free shots.

They were sent to separate hospitals the following day, and a week or so later, they both passed away.

Whether the other victims were residing in the same hostel is unclear.

A man who had a buddy in common with the Danish girls wrote an urgent warning for other tourists online shortly after they became unwell.

It read: “I’ve been really busy these past several days helping a Belgian friend who traveled with two girls.

“They decided to meet at Vang Vieng, but no communication was possible for more than 72 hours.

The odd part was that they both reported vomiting blood for 13 hours in their most recent communication. Both of them have now passed away.

In the meantime, a different young lady who was visiting Vietnam made friends with the Danish girls, stating that “we were a bomb of energy together.”

Daniele Rodriguez told the Daily Mail that she got to know the two and cautioned them about the risks of traveling in the area.

According to police papers obtained by the Sydney Morning Herald, on November 12, they had drinks at the hostel before visiting other bars in the area.

Around midnight, they returned to the lodging and stayed in their bathroom all day.

At approximately 6 p.m. on November 13, they were eventually discovered asleep on the floor of their restroom.

Before being transported to the capital, Vientiane, the girls were taken to a hospital in Vang Vieng, where they were both in a coma.

According to reports, they were pronounced deceased on November 14 at approximately 3:30 am.

The timeframe is comparable to that of Holly and Bianca, two Australian girls.

When hostel guests informed the staff that they had not checked out on November 13, the staff checked on them and made arrangements for transportation to the hospital.

The hostel staff has stated that their beer is unadulterated and cannot be held accountable for the tourists’ deaths.

Police have detained several employees, including the manager, for interrogation; however, no charges have been brought as of yet.

According to a Laos government document, American man James Hutson was discovered unconscious in his hotel room on November 13 among two empty vodka bottles.

After being brought to a nearby hospital, he was pronounced dead.

After Hutson’s death, the hostel remained open for business for nine days before being shut down by authorities on Friday, the 22nd, after five more.

The Laotian government acknowledged that it was looking into the fatalities and expressed its deep sadness.

Free vodka and whisky happy hours every night are claimed to have enticed guests to the hotel.
