At least 31 tourists missing after boat sinks off coast of Egypt at Red Sea resort as massive rescue operation launched

A boat carrying scores of tourists sank off the coast of Egypt, prompting the start of an enormous rescue effort.

The Sea Story ship vanished in the Red Sea close to Marsa Alam, leaving at least 45 persons unaccounted for.

The ship was scheduled to return to Hurghada Marina on November 29 after departing Porto Ghalib Port on November 24 for a diving excursion.

However, a crew member from the boat sent out a distress call at around 5:30 a.m. local time.

After that, it vanished off the radar, and communication was lost.

The boat, which was carrying 14 crew members and 31 visitors of various nations, is missing and is thought to have sunk in the Sha ad Sataya region.

Marine Traffic, a ship tracking website, reports that the boat’s most recent location was off Hurghada.

Authorities have sent out a helicopter and rescue crews.

Several vacationers have been saved, however it’s unknown how many, according to Red Sea Governor Major General Amr Hanafy.

Those who are still missing are being found by ongoing search efforts.

Sea Story is a 144-foot leisure boat that can accommodate up to 32 people. It was built in 2022.
