PlayStation could be working on a console to rival the Switch and it’s not the PS Portal

Since the release of the PlayStation Vita in 2012, PLAYSTATION has not produced a specialized handheld device.

It released the PlayStation Portal, a remote play device, in 2023. It was a big success, but it needed a PS5 to play.

PlayStation just revealed that you may play the PS Portal without a PS5, but you’ll need a powerful internet connection and PS Plus Premium.

Even so, it brings the business, which hasn’t developed a handheld console in more over ten years, one step closer to a dedicated one.

Sony is reportedly in the early phases of creating a truly portable system, according to a recent Bloomberg story.

Nintendo is the market leader for handheld console games, and it appears that PlayStation intends to develop the gadget to compete with them.

According to Phil Spencer, the CEO of Xbox, Microsoft is working on a portable console, but it won’t be available for years.

According to the source, the release of PlayStation’s portable is still years away, and the corporation may decide to scrap its plans to release it.

According to Bloomberg, the PS Portal was initially intended to function as a stand-alone console, much like Valve’s Steam Deck.

PlayStation has been looking into ways to expand the PS5 library’s user base, such as increasing its promotion of PC and live-service games.

Sony has not made any public announcements on a portable system, and the firm declined to comment to Bloomberg on the claim.

Following the great success of the original Switch, Nintendo is anticipated to release the sequel in 2025.

Adding backward compatibility with the Switch’s library will help Nintendo build on the success of one of the best-selling platforms ever.

Companies like Valve, PlayStation, and Xbox probably noticed the console’s popularity and realized that gamers still wanted portable games.

Although PlayStation’s previous portable console wasn’t very well-liked in the West, it succeeded in Japan by targeting women.

It had a vast library of role-playing games and visual novels, and it was available in over 50 designs and a vast array of color combinations.

It seems certain that a new portable PlayStation system will be well-liked, but we hope Sony does a fantastic job with the marketing this time around in the West.
