Who is Rami in The Helicopter Heist?

The protagonist of the Swedish Netflix series The Helicopter robbery, which dramatizes a real-life million-dollar robbery, is RAMI.

In the show, Rami lands on the roof of a Swedish vault with strong security and uses a number of ruses and traps, including buried bombs, to try to outsmart the police.

The real-life Rami

Mahmut Suvakci plays Rami, a character based on the real-life robber Shirwan Safa Kadhum.

Born in 1979 in Iraq, Kadhum moved to Sweden with his parents when he was a small child.

Kadham stunned the country on December 22, 2000, when he stormed into the Swedish National Museum and took one Rembrandt and two Renoir paintings.

He disappeared quickly after, but when he attempted to convince the museum to buy back the artworks in 2004, he was arrested.

For stealing the three paintings, which were worth a total of $30 million, Kadham received a two-year prison sentence.

He planned another high-stakes heist in 2009.

In order to transport him and a few of his cronies to a GS4 cash depot, he enlisted Alexander Erikkson.

After landing on the compound’s roof, they used sledgehammers to smash a window and made off with 39.1 million kronor.

They set caltrops on the roadways and planted bombs at their helicopter base to keep the police from pursuing them.

The 39.1 million kronor was never recovered, but the criminals were eventually apprehended and imprisoned.

Kadhum s motive

According to Kadhum, he was coerced into doing the crime.

In 2009, a creditor gave him the opportunity to participate in the heist while he was undergoing culinary training.

Kadhum said he felt compelled to participate in the plan because of his mounting debt.

Kadhum was the only one in the group to enter a guilty plea when they were apprehended.

This was due to the fact that DNA evidence unequivocally demonstrated his presence at the robbery scene.

His fingerprints from his break-in at the Swedish National Museum were likewise on file with the authorities.

The Helicopter Heist

The Helicopter Heist closely resembles the actual heist that Kadhum and his cronies carried out.

However, Kadhum and his TV counterpart Rami vary in two significant ways.

The first is that Kadhum left DNA traces at the crime scene, which prevented him from fleeing to Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic.

In order to prevent the police task group from breaking into his pregnant girlfriend’s house, he instead ran away to Punta Cana.

The second significant distinction is that Kadhum was not Michel, another thief, a boyhood acquaintance.
