Stephen A. Smith left visibly stunned on First Take after Dallas Cowboys debate with Shannon Sharpe turns personal
After a back-and-forth with Shannon Sharpe on First Take, Stephen A. Smith was shocked by what he heard.
On Monday’s episode of the popular ESPN sports program, the fiery personality and NFL Hall of Famer were discussing the Dallas Cowboys.
On Sunday, the Dallas Cowboys defeated the Washington Commanders 34–26.
Following the Cowboys’ first victory since October 6, First Take questioned whether head coach Mike McCarthy could keep his job.
The topic of conversation turned to whether McCarthy’s replacement may be the legendary Bill Belichick.
Because of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, Sharpe and colleague Tedy Bruschi don’t think the New England Patriots legend would be hired.

Stephen A. Smith agreed that Jones’ handling of the media could help Belichick.
Smith attempted to convince his coworkers and television viewers that Belichick could like working for Jones, but Sharpe cut him off.
“Stephen A., do you like coming to your job every day and having a headache?” Sharpe inquired. You’re talking about what you believe to be true, you see. One sound, one voice. You only have one voice and one sound that resonates when you’re attempting to win titles.
Sharpe’s abrasive remarks stunned Stephen A.
“And you and I both know,Bill Belichickis a bigger draw thanJerry Jones, that s why he has coaches that he can overshadow,” Sharpe went on.
Smith, however, objected to Sharpe using the Cowboys and titles in the same phrase.
Because of this, Sharpe seemed to criticize Stephen A., implying that he lacks the authority to argue football with him.
Smith told Sharpe, “When you bring up championships and the Cowboys together, your argument is completely out of the window.”
Sharpe said, “Now you know more football,” in a disgusted tone. “Go ahead, OK.”
“Shannon, hurry up,” Smith replied. I didn’t claim to know more about football than you did. Put an end to that. Put an end to that. I haven’t said that before.
Sharpe appeared to be on the verge of removing his glasses in frustration with Stephen A.
In contrast, Bruschi remained silent for the whole of the sequence.
Smith and Sharpe have not responded to the dispute.
It was one of the few occasions during the ESPN program when Sharpe showed obvious frustration with Smith.
