Tiger Woods ‘disappointed’ as he’s forced to make U-turn on Open promise in latest injury update for golf icon

“DISAPPOINTED” Tiger Woods has had to make a last-minute change to his schedule, breaking his Open pledge.

Since failing to make the cut at the British Open in July, the 48-year-old golf great has not participated in any competitive events.

Woods told Royal Troon that he was excited to play in the Hero World Challenge in The Bahamas in December.

The 15-time major winner did not provide an explanation, but he did announce that he will not be playing in Albany next week.

Woods posted on Twitter: “I am disappointed that I will not be able to compete this year at the Hero World Challenge, but always look forward to being tournament host.”

Last month, Woods was not included on the first player field list.

However, he was anticipated to receive one of the three exemption spots for the unofficial event, which would include 20 of the best talents in the world.

However, Woods has already announced that he will no longer compete and will instead serve as the event’s host.

The exemption spots for the renowned tournament, which takes place from December 5 to 8, went to Justin Thomas, a two-time major champion, Jason Day, a previous PGA Championship king, and Nick Dunlap, a 20-year-old up-and-coming talent.

He missed the cut at the other three majors but ultimately finished 60th at Augusta.

In September, Woods had microdecompression surgery to repair a nerve impingement in his lower back.

And he hoped to be back on the course quickly after the op.

“The surgery went well, and I’m hoping this will help alleviate the back spasms and pain I was experiencing throughout the majority of the 2024 season,” Woods stated at the time.

“I look forward to tackling this rehab and preparing myself to get back to normal life activities, including golf.”

Woods and his son Charlie may participate in the PNC Championship later in December.

However, if he is still not prepared for that, golf fans will probably see him swing a club at the postponed debut of his new business partnership with Rory McIlroy, the TGL.
