Target customers threaten to ‘go elsewhere’ and ditch store over new change that left them ‘waiting 10 minutes’

After waiting for their favorite items due to a store change, a TARGET client has threatened to shop at competitors.

They criticized the tailgiant online for the lengthy wait time, attributing the unfavorable experience to a security measure and a staffing shortage.

Jen, a customer in Apostto X, recently became irate and said, “My target locked up all the skincare items in the last couple of weeks.”

“Another woman and I rang the bell for assistance, had to wait a full 10 min bc the store was so understaffed they didn’t have anyone to unlock them…guess I’ll go elsewhere bye bye @Target.”

Although Target has not yet responded to the complaint, this is not the first instance of products being secured behind glass.

A few of Target’s 1,962 locations countrywide have strengthened their anti-theft policies in the last 12 months.

Retail fraud caused nine shops to shut down entirely in September 2023.

“We cannot continue operating these stores because theft and organized retail crime are threatening the safety of our team and guests and contributing to unsustainable business performance,” Target stated in a news release.

The glass casing surrounding goods shelving units has been a reasonably frequent theft prevention at several places.

Customers must ask a staff member with a key to open it and retrieve the goods for them whenever they want to purchase anything from behind it.

NOT ALONE

Jen and a lot of other people have been in this predicament at Target.

After having a similar incident this summer, a customer demanded that the retailer hire extra staff if the item was again kept locked away.

If not, a growing number of clients will have to wait.

“Hey @Target, if you’re going to keep the majority of your store’s merch behind locked doors, you’re going to have to hire more workers to OPEN THEM,” they said in a reply to X.

“People were waiting for employees in every aisle of my target. and holding out. and holding out.”

In response, Target expressed regret to the consumer and asked for additional details regarding the occurrence.

Target’s anti-theft measures

To combat criminality in the store, Target has put in place a number of anti-theft systems.

Customers have reacted negatively to the retail behemoth’s decision to put some items behind closed cabinets.

There were rumors in April 2024 that it intended to equip its self-checkout registers with TruScan cameras.

In an effort to prevent theft, Target also equipped its self-checkout registers with weight sensors.

LIVID OVER THE LIMIT

In recent months, several consumers have threatened to boycott the retail behemoth after it made another big decision.

Target started implementing Express Self-Checkout with a 10-item limit at all of its locations across the country earlier this spring.

At the end of 2023, it tested the limit at 200 stores, and a representative told The U.S. Sun that it was successful in increasing checkout efficiency.

Some haven’t found this to be the case, though, as they continue to see lengthy waits and a lack of typical checkout lanes for customers with more than ten items.

Earlier this month, Shelly, a customer, had had enough and vowed never to return after standing in the self-checkout line for fifteen minutes before being directed to the regular checkout section.

The shopper said there was only one cashiered lane open.

She posted on X, saying, “You just lost a good customer,” to Target.

“Bye, bye Target.”
