Donald Trump names longtime ally Kash Patel as FBI director

President-Elect Kash Patel is Donald Trump’s most recent shocking appointment to the position of FBI director.

It occurs just hours after the Republican nominated Charles Kushner, the father of Jared Kushner, his son-in-law, to be ambassador to France.

Senate Republicans’ willingness to go to great lengths to confirm Trump’s candidates will be tested by the most recent bombshell he has thrown at the Washington elite.

“I am pleased to announce that Kashyap Kash Patel will be the next Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation,” Trump wrote in a Saturday night post on Truth Social.

“Kash is a brilliant lawyer, investigator, and America First fighter who has spent his career exposing corruption, defending Justice, and protecting the American People.”

While maintaining close allies, the choice supports Trump’s belief that significant reform is needed in the government’s intelligence and law enforcement apparatus.

Even in a Senate controlled by Republicans, Patel’s chances of being approved are currently unknown.

Christopher Wray, who was nominated by Trump in 2017, rapidly lost the support of the now-elect president and his friends, would be replaced by Patel.

Despite the 10-year term, Trump’s long-standing public hatred of Wray and the FBI made his dismissal unsurprising.

This includes following two investigations that led to his indictment and a search of his Florida house for secret information.

Patel has proposed closing the FBI’s Washington headquarters and calling for a significant reduction in the agency’s footprint.

Patel aims to change this, even though the Justice Department banned the practice of surreptitiously obtaining reporters’ phone records while conducting leak investigations in 2021.

He has stated that he plans to modify the legislation to make it simpler to sue journalists and to actively pursue government officials who give reporters access to confidential information.

Patel stated in an interview with Steve Bannon in December that he and others would go out and uncover the conspirators in the media as well as in the government.

“We’re going to come after the people in the media who lied about American citizens who helped Joe Biden rig presidential elections,” Patel stated, alluding to the 2020 presidential election in which Biden defeated Trump.

“We will pursue you, whether in a civil or criminal capacity. Well, work that out. However, we are putting everyone on notice.

Patel, a former public defender and the child of Indian immigrants, worked for the Justice Department for a number of years before becoming a worker for the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and attracting the attention of the Trump administration.

Additionally, Trump declared on Saturday that he will appoint Hillsborough County, Florida, Sheriff Chad Chronister, the county’s senior law enforcement official, to be the Drug Enforcement Agency’s Administrator.

When Trump announced the appointment, he wrote on Truth Social: “As DEA Administrator, Chad will work with our great Attorney General, Pam Bondi, to secure the Border, stop the flow of Fentanyl, and other Illegal Drugs, across the Southern Border, and SAVE LIVES.”

Additionally, Trump declared his desire for Charles Kushner, the father of Jared Kushner, his son-in-law, to be appointed ambassador to France.

In an ebullient post on Truth Social, Trump announced the news and referred to Charles Kushner as a “tremendous business leader, philanthropist, and dealmaker.”
