Tyler Bilodeau and Dexter Akanno Are Oregon State’s Sixth and Seventh Men’s Basketball Players to Join the Portal

The hits keep coming for Oregon State men’s basketball, with big man Tyler Bilodeau and guard Dexter Akanno allegedly entering the transfer portal.

Nick Daschel of the Oregonian revealed Bilodeau’s admission on Wednesday, April 3.

The 6-foot-9 forward from Kennewick, Washington, was the Beavers’ second-leading scorer behind guard Jordan Pope, who entered the gateway Tuesday. Bilodeau averaged 14.3 points per game while starting every game for the Beavers in 2023-24.

Bilodeau was the Beavers’ most efficient scorer during his sophomore season, shooting 53.3% from the field and 34.5% from beyond the arc. Bilodeau also finished second on the boards for Oregon State, averaging 5.7 rebounds per game. Michael Rataj was the category leader, averaging 5.8 per game.

ESPN’s Jeff Borzello reported Akanno’s arrival on X, formerly Twitter, on April 3.

Akanno, a transfer from Marquette, has spent the last two years at Oregon State. He started the majority of games his senior year at Oregon State, averaging 10.9 points per game on 39% shooting from the field and 32.5% from beyond the arc. Akanno will use his COVID-19 redshirt year to play a sixth and final season of college basketball, wherever he ends up.

Bilodeau and Akanno become Oregon State’s sixth and seventh players to enter the portal, according to Daschel. He joins Pope, guards Christian Wright and Justin Rochelin, forward Jayden Stevens, and center KC Ibekwe as former Beavers seeking new opportunities.

Except for graduating seniors, Oregon State will keep guards Josiah Lake II, DaJohn Craig, Nate Meithof, and Felipe Palazzo, as well as forwards Thomas Ndong, Michael Rataj, Grey Garrison, and Gavin Marrs, pending any future portal entries.

The huge exodus from the program follows a season in which Oregon State finished 13-19, including a 5-15 record in conference play. This is in addition to Oregon State’s departure from the Power Five conferences to join the WCC as an affiliate member for at least the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons, as the Beavers seek to rebuild the Pac-12 or find a permanent league home.
