Men rate women’s vaginas in the name of science – and reveal what attributes are most attractive

Men’s true perceptions of female genitalia have been uncovered by new research.

According to earlier studies, women’s views of vaginas are frequently influenced by social and cultural factors, such as inflated expectations brought on by pornography.

According to a recent study, however, men had a positive opinion of female genitalia and valued function over appearance.

212 US heterosexual men with a history of dating women, ranging in age from 19 to 77, participated in their study.

Following that, they were asked to assess the significance of 23 distinct genital traits, such as tightness, fragrance, and labia size (the skin folds surrounding the vaginal opening).

Men were shown to place less value on looks than on functional and sensory aspects.

Physical pleasure, smell, taste, tightness, and lubrication were among the qualities that were deemed more significant, indicating that men prioritize functional experiences over symmetry and labia size.

on one-fifth of survey participants expressed negative opinions, suggesting that a tiny percentage of men have unfavorable opinions on female genitalia.

“Women’s genitals are beautiful” and “Women should feel proud of their genitals” were among the statements that participants who assessed their overall impressions as fairly positive agreed with.

The study also found a correlation between men’s attitudes and their behavior in relational and sexual circumstances.

Men who had favorable opinions about their female partners were more likely to act in ways that showed closeness and confidence, such complimenting them verbally on their genitalia.

A higher number of lifetime female sexual partners was also reported by men who held more positive opinions.

“Most, but not all, men who are attracted to women have positive (though not very positive) views of female genitals,” E. Sandra Byers, the study’s author and a professor emerita at the University of New Brunswick, told PsyPost.

“Holding negative views likely reflects societal messages about female genitals and may influence not only men’s own but also their female partners’ sexual well-being.”

Previous studies have found…

According to a 2015 research of 1,847 men between the ages of 18 and 80 from throughout the US, men were not picky about how women’s genitalia looked.

Study participants were asked to score pictures of small, medium, and large labia as either neutral, unattractive, or appealing.

In general, people preferred small and medium-sized labia over large ones.

However, 36% of participants had no opinion about any of the three sizes.

54% of respondents stated they had no preferences when asked directly about them.

However, it’s important to watch out for the following symptoms that can point to a medical problem:

  • A change in the colour, odour or amount of vaginal discharge
  • Vaginal redness or itching
  • Vaginal bleeding between periods, after sex or after menopause
  • A mass or bulge in the vagina
  • Pain during intercourse

If you have previously been diagnosed with a vaginal yeast infection and you are experiencing identical symptoms, you may not need to see your general practitioner.

However, consult your physician if taking medication from a drugstore doesn’t alleviate your problems.

You can do the following to maintain the health of your vagina:

  • Be sexually responsible – use condoms or maintain a mutually monogamous relationship with a partner who’s free of sexually transmitted infections. If you use sex toys, clean them after every use.
  • Get vaccinated – vaccinations can protect you from HPV, the virus associated with cervical cancer, as well as hepatitis B a serious liver infection that can spread through sexual contact.
  • Do Kegel exercises – kegel exercises can help tone your pelvic floor muscles if you have prolapse, leaking of urine or weakness of the pelvic floor.
