Iconic convenience store closing third location in US city this year – note on door sparked ominous warning for shoppers

The closing of a third shop in the same city this month has been confirmed by a well-known convenience store.

According to Wawa, the closing shop was a trial test of a different business idea and was smaller than conventional convenience stores.

A representative told WCAU that the closure appeared to be the result of the test failing.

“16th and Ranstead store initially opened in 2020 as a pilot test of a smaller urban store concept, which also included a walk-up window,” they stated.

“However, due to its limited size, we have determined that we are not able to provide the same kind of in-store experience and full Wawa offer that customers expect.”

Wawa further stated that all workers at the Center City convenience shop that was closing were given offers of employment at other neighboring sites.

Since 2020, there have been nine closures in the city.
