Frantic search for survivors after huge explosion at block of flats in The Hague as cops hunt ‘car seen speeding away’

A massive explosion tore through a block of apartments in The Hague, sparking a FRANTIC hunt for survivors.

Following a loud scream and a loud bang, firefighters raced to the three-story structure in the city’s Mariahoeve neighborhood at approximately 6:15 a.m. this morning.

Residents were asleep when the explosion and the fire entirely destroyed several apartments.

Up to 20 people are currently being sought by rescuers who believe they were in the block when the explosion occurred.

There is a line of ambulances stationed close to the building, ready to transport victims to the hospital, and four people have been retrieved from the wreckage thus far.

Although the origin of the explosion is yet unknown, Dutch media reports that police are searching for a car that fled shortly after.

After the ground shook, one woman told the local media that she believed an earthquake had occurred.

In a statement, Prime Minister Dick Schoof expressed his amazement at the pictures of the catastrophe.

“My thoughts are with the victims, all those involved, and the emergency services who are currently on the scene,” he said.
