In the national schools championship, the Australian broke numerous records with a time of 20.04 for the 200-meter event.
Years ahead of even his own expectations, Gouta acknowledged that he is finding it difficult to “process” his “crazy” accomplishment.
For an Under-18, he ran the second-fastest time ever.
Erriyon Knighton of Florida, who recorded 19.84s three years ago at the age of 17, is the only child above him.
Gout’s performance beat the Australian record of 20.06, which was set by Peter Norman when he won silver at the 1958 Olympics.

“It’s pretty crazy,” the Queenslander, who turns 17 on December 29, said.
“I can’t process it right now, but I suppose I’ll give it some thought before bed tonight.
“These are grownups. And I’m chasing them (down) as a mere child.
“That record has been my goal, but I didn’t anticipate achieving it this year. I had assumed it would happen the following year or perhaps the year after.

Gout’s 200-meter performances are nearly as impressive as his 100-meter times.
He became the fourth-fastest Australian ever to run the shorter distance on Friday with a time of 10.04.
Gout beat the U-18 world mark by 0.02 seconds, but it won’t be officially counted since it was too wind-assisted.
He has been compared to eight-time Olympic gold medallist Bolt due to his running style and times.
The 38-year-old Jamaican, who is now retired, owns the world records for the 100 and 200 meters, with times of 9.58 and 19.19, respectively.
At six feet five inches, Bolt was three inches taller than Gout now, which is rare for a sprinter.
