Ian Garry suffers wardrobe malfunction and changes shorts mid-fight as he LOSES to Shavkat Rakhmonov at UFC 310

When IAN MACHADO GARRY faced former training partner Shavkat Rakhmonov, he lost for the first time as a professional and experienced a wardrobe malfunction.

Early on Sunday morning, the Irishman competed in the co-main event of UFC 310 in Las Vegas in an attempt to win a shot at the welterweight title.

However, a unanimous decision loss to the Kazakh killer has put a stop to his hopes of competing for UFC gold.

Rahmonov stifled slickstriker Garry by using a grappling-heavy style against the five-rounder.

However, Garry tangled him up in multiple submission attempts in the final round, nearly knocking him out of the unbeaten ranks.

The 27-year-old Garry appeared to be seconds away from winning the fight with a tight, rear-naked choke. Rakhmonov, however, was able to escape and reach the last horn.

Each of the three judges submitted a scorecard with a score of 48–47.

One of the main talking points of the battle, along with a wardrobe malfunction in the middle of the fight, was Garry’s close call with Rakhmonov.

It turned out that in the early stages of the fight, between the third and fourth rounds, Garry tore his shorts.

And he changed into his backup shorts after stripping down to his underwear rather than fighting in the frayed shorts.

“Shavkat never looked like that in a fight that we witnessed.

“Today, I m very happy with my performance.

“My hand may have not have got raised, but I know I m a champion at heart and I will get that belt one day.”

Elsewhere on the card, Alexandre Pantoja retained his flyweight title with a second-round submission of UFC newcomer Kai Asakura in the main event.

Former heavyweight title chllenger Ciryl Gane edged his rematch with Alexander Volkov via split decision.

And Bryce Mitchell and Doo-ho Choi scored third-round knockouts of Kron Gracie and Nate Landwehr respectively.
