Laura Rutledge’s live TV interview abruptly ends as Texas coach walks away from ESPN camera during Georgia loss
When the Texas Longhorns lost to the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship game, head coach Steve Sarkisian made headlines with his awful live TV interview.
The incident involving Sarkisian and ESPN reporter Laura Rutledge took place during the Bulldogs’ 22-19 victory at halftime.
After half an hour of play, Rutledge caught up to Sarkisian on the field, and the Longhorns were ahead 6-3.
Rutledge pointed out that during the first half, the Longhorns had been the target of several penalty kicks.
“Coach, eight penalties in this first half, how do you get your team to clean some of that up,” she said to Sarkisian.
Then, the fourth-year coach explained his issue with the referees.

“Well hopefully, they call them for a holding one of these times too,” Sarkisian continued.
Then he glanced back at a startled Rutledge and awkwardly into the ESPN camera.
“Let’s go to Holly Rowe [in the studio] for a little bit more,” she said.
Before Rutledge could complete her statement, Sarkisian left the interview.
When his team was called for eight penalties totaling 80 yards, the Longhorns coach became irate.
Despite restricting Georgia to only 54 yards and accumulating 260 total yards, Texas’ lead in the first half was only three points.
A penalty took points off the Longhorns’ scoreboard.
They would have led 9-3 when kicker Bert Auburn made a 37-yard field goal.
But Auburn missed a 42-yard field goal after a bad start put the ball back.
After overcoming an injury, Quinn Ewers led a late-fourth-quarter drive that tied the game and forced overtime.
However, running back Trevor Etienne’s touchdown gave the Bulldogs the victory.
Nevertheless, it’s safe to conclude that the 50-year-old has contributed to the revival of the Longhorns program.
With an 11-1 record in 2024, Sarkisian currently has a 36-16 record over four seasons.
This season, he has earned $10.3 million, and through 2030, he will continue to earn more.

In 2019 and 2020, Sarkisian was the offensive coordinator for the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Leading the Longhorns to their first national championship since 2005 is his goal.
