‘Detroit is a safer place’: 7 suspects in custody after 5 carjackings, attempted theft at gas station

A Detroit police officer shot one of the seven carjacking suspects on Saturday night after they claim he pointed a firearm at them. It took place on the east side of the city when police were monitoring the suspects.

According to authorities, a carjacking suspect was shot and injured by police in Detroit (FOX 2).

Officers from the Commercial Auto Theft Unit were monitoring a carjacking gang near Outer Drive and Conant, acting Chief Todd Bettison said. According to police, the individuals are thought to be involved in five carjackings that took place in a 48-hour span.

They witnessed one of the suspects pointing a gun toward the rear of a Dodge Durango driver at a fueling station while they were on patrol. Officers were engaged after observing this. Officers opened fire after the suspect pointed the gun at them, striking the suspect in the arm.

The other accused fled, but they were apprehended nearby.

No police were hit, and the shot suspect was not critically wounded.

“The suspects were captured less than a mile away,” Bettison stated. “As a result of them being off the streets right now, the city of Detroit is a safer place.”
