Major Carson Beck injury update as Georgia sweats on fitness of star quarterback before College Football Playoff

After suffering an injury that virtually eliminated him from the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day, Carson Beck’s college career may be over.

In the Georgia Bulldogs’ 22–19 victory over the Texas Longhorns on Saturday, the 23-year-old quarterback sustained an elbow injury.

The last play of the first half was when Beck was hurt.

He is anticipated to miss a substantial amount of time as he was later observed icing his elbow.

Although Beck’s possible comeback date has not been officially announced, it is anticipated that he will miss the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans on New Year’s Day.

The Bulldogs secured the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye in the College Football Playoffs thanks to their victory on Saturday.

How the 12-team CFP works

On Friday, December 20, the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff will begin.

Who will enter, though?

Around New Year’s, the top four conference winners will all receive a first-round bye to the quarterfinals.

Even if they are not among the top 12 teams in the country, the fifth-highest conference champion will also be guaranteed a spot.

This guarantees a champion from a conference in the second tier will have the opportunity to compete for the national title.

On Friday, December 20, or Saturday, December 21, teams ranked five through eight will host a first-round playoff game.

Additionally, they will face the nine- through twelve-seeded teams.

The CFP committee determines all of these rankings and seedings, among other things, by looking at schedule strength and record.

The National Championship Game this year will be held in Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, on Monday, January 20.

He was regarded as a possible No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft going into this season.

But because of a sluggish start to the year, the formerly highly-rated prospect’s stock has dropped.

However, an injury that could ruin his season would probably make his draft prospects even worse.

If Beck’s time in college is now over, he will have a strong resume.
