Millions of iPhone owners must update their handset NOW ahead of major iOS shake-up expected this week
To prevent their iCloud data from becoming up in the hands of hackers, millions of iPhone owners have been instructed to upgrade their handsets today.
Cybercriminals were able to duplicate “extensive” amounts of user data “without leaving any trace” due to the issue, according to a blog post from software company Jamf.
The defect was discovered by the Jamf team, who claimed that it does not alert iPhone users when a suspicious app attempts to access their contacts, GPS position, or images.
According to the researchers, it implies that thieves might obtain “sensitive data” belonging to an Apple user without their awareness.
Both Mac computers and iPhones are susceptible.
After being alerted to the vulnerability by Jamf’s researchers, Apple fixed it along with 38 other security flaws in iOS 18 and macOS 15.

A pop-up to approve or reject access to particular data from each app is now displayed to users.
Researchers raised concern about attackers’ concentration on iCloud data and referred to the discovery as a “wake-up call” in their blog post.
It is highly recommended that you update your iPhone to iOS 18 right away if you haven’t already.
On September 16, iOS 18 was made available on dozens of devices.

How to spot a dodgy app

As Apple gets ready to release iOS 18.2, the year’s most anticipated iPhone upgrade, the warning is issued.
