Michigan snow forecast: Lake effect snow, squalls to hit Metro Detroit on Wednesday
DETROIT (FOX 2):Following a pleasant start to the week, snow and cold are expected to arrive in the middle of the week, which could result in a convoluted Wednesday night commute.
Wind will make it feel much cooler. Tuesday’s high will be in the low 40s, while Wednesday’s high will only be in the mid-30s.
On Wednesday, there is a chance of some snowflakes during the day, but the majority won’t fall until the afternoon. It will occasionally become heavy as it falls into the night.
Wind speeds will increase to about 30 mph as the snow falls. Wind and the lake effect snow might cause snow squalls in the evening, which would occasionally make visibility challenging.
Because snow totals are dependent on whether or not a location is experiencing a squall, they are now difficult to determine. Southeast Michigan typically receives 1-2 inches of snow, but your totals will be much lower if you are not under a snow squall.
As an alternative, you might see totals pile up a little quicker if you are in one of the snow squalls. This means that, locally, some places might get closer to 3 inches, but this is more likely to happen in locations near Lansing.
