Waterford man becomes 13th drowning victim in Oakland County this year
FOX 2: Oakland County, MichiganAccording to the sheriff’s office, a 61-year-old man from Waterford Township is the 13th person to drown in Oakland County this year.
Late Monday night, a Waterford police officer recovered Joselito Estonilo Garcia’s body behind a dock in Maceday Lake.
At 9:42 p.m. on Monday, a 911 caller reported hearing a voice calling for assistance and the sound of someone flailing in the water. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team was then sent to the 3700 block of Austinwood.
There was another emergency contact to the township police. The caller said that after a little while, the ranting stopped. After Garcia’s body was located, CPR and life-saving procedures were initiated. Garcia’s entrance into the lake was unknown.
Early this morning, Garcia was taken to the hospital and declared dead. Alcohol may have had a role in the fatality, according to the sheriff’s detectives.
Today there was to be an autopsy. According to investigators, drowning was the most likely cause of death. This would be the thirteenth drowning in a lake in Oakland County.
Sheriff Michael Bouchard stated, “Drownings in Oakland County have been extremely tragic this year.” Unfortunately, drinking alcohol is a common factor in many drowning threads. That is also being investigated in this case. We encourage everyone to use caution when near water.
