Police departments throughout the state are stepping up their enforcement as the holidays get near with the well-known reminder

FOX 2, Oakland Park, Mich.Police departments throughout the state are stepping up their enforcement of the “drive sober or get pulled over” message as the holidays get near.

This program to reduce drunk driving will run throughout the state and the nation for the next three weeks.

According to James, a bartender at the Dog and Pony Show in Oak Park, his employees are trained to identify situations and know what to do.

“We have intervention procedures,” he stated. “We can see if they are visually impaired, we also keep track of how much they’ve had.”

Although driving after drinking is not unlawful in and of itself, the legal limit is.08 percent of blood alcohol content.

James also discussed the holiday police crackdown.

“For us it’s very important, but for us – we practice it all year long,” he stated. “We (take) it to heart and make sure that people are safe.”

Brandon, one of the customers, commented on all the options accessible to people who have consumed too much alcohol.

“Uber, Lyft, Cab, it’s too easy in today’s day and age to be able to make smart decisions,” he stated.

Jessica, another bartender, talked about the many non-alcoholic options.

“This is our Hopwater, which is our sparkling water we flavor with hops,” she stated. “We have tangerine and lime, but we also serve Faygo products and other non-alcoholic options.”
