Latest Update: Gulf Beach Highway Brush Fire Containment Reaches 30%

Escambia County, Florida — As of Thursday night, thirty percent of the brush fire in a community along Gulf Beach Highway was contained.

At about 7 p.m., officials conducted a press conference.

According to reports, the fire has scorched over 50 acres. Fifteen properties have been affected, with one sustaining significant damage.

Nobody was hurt. Workers are still battling the fire.

Weller Avenue is the only road that is closed, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.

Florida’s Escambia County — On Thursday afternoon, firefighters are battling a brush fire in an Escambia County community along Gulf Beach Highway.

The 2200 block of Somerville Court was the scene of the fire at approximately 4 p.m.

The whole Mary Fleming Drive and Weller Avenue area had to be evacuated, according to the county’s instruction.

While officials responded to the incident, several roads, including Dog Track Road, Gulf Beach Highway, Blue Angel Parkway, Fairfield Drive, and others, were temporarily closed.

Except for Weller Avenue, all roads were reopened at 7 p.m.

In addition to road closures, the sheriff’s office is helping with the evacuation.

Two public transportation buses are being sent by Escambia County to help with the evacuees.

For those affected by the fire, Liberty Church on Blue Angel Parkway has been converted into a shelter.
