Controversial energy drink with troubled past returning to stores with triple the caffeine 40 years after introduction
A popular energy drink that has generated some controversy over the years is being reintroduced to the market.
Its caffeine concentration has tripled since its legendary comeback, which is anticipated to occur in early 2025.
According to an October press release, Redcon1, a quickly expanding sports supplement brand, struck an agreement with licensing firm IMG early this year to reintroduce customers of Jolt Colato.
It was intended to “merge JOLT’s legendary brand recognition with Redcon1’s modern, high-energy lifestyle image.”
In a “best of both worlds” choice, Redcon1 stated that it aimed to appeal to “a new generation of customers” while providing some nostalgia for devoted Jolt Cola aficionados.
Many people believe that Jolt Cola was the first energy drink in the 1980s, and it is considered legendary in the industry.

It was decades ahead of Red Bull, Celsius, and Monster.
At the time, Jolt Cola gave consumers somewhat more than twice as much caffeine as a regular 12-ounce can of Pepsior Coca-Cola, which has roughly 34 mg.
Because a Jolt Cola in the 1980s contained about 72 mg, many American parents forbade their children from drinking it.
These days, energy drinks include caffeine contents that range from 150 mg to 350 mg on the higher end.
According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the maximum amount of caffeine that most healthy persons can safely consume in a single day is 400 mg.
TASTE PROMISE
The new Jolt Colas will contain 200 mg, which is exactly the proper amount, just like Celsius and even other well-known supplement brands like C4.
According to Food Dive, Jolt Cola’s new cans will be larger, weighing up to 16 ounces instead of 12. They will also contain a variety of additional components, such as B vitamins, nootropics for concentration, and a non-stimulant metabolic booster.
In addition to keeping its zero-sugar pledge, Redcon1 spent more than 18 months refining the cola energy drink’s flavor to prevent it from being bland or generic.
According to Redcon1 creator Aaron Singerman, “We think of it kind of like a Coke Zero,” Aaron told the outlet.
“People are going to drink it and go ‘Wow, this tastes great,’ and they’re not even thinking about the energy factor.”
Many people have a particular place in their hearts for this product, and we are dedicated to maintaining its original qualities while improving it for today’s consumers.
Redcon1 stated in the release that it intends to provide Jolt Cola in “ready-to-drink pre-workout” and “energy shot” varieties in addition to two unidentified flavor profiles in the 16-ounce cans.
BANKRUPTCY WOES
Jolt Cola’s comeback is noteworthy because, for a while, the beverage’s future looked bleak.
After an expensive canning contract and competition from other increasingly popular drinks, its founder declared bankruptcy in 2009.
It had a brief comeback in 2017, but its distribution was insufficient.
Redcon1 claims that its version is the solution.
“Jolt Cola is more than just a product; it’s a piece of history,” IMG senior director of licensing Nick Manzo wrote in the press statement.
“We’re thrilled to have brought Jolt and Redcon1 together to reintroduce this iconic product and celebrate its legacy both with loyal fans and a new generation eager to experience the bold energy of Jolt.”
