Longest running family-owned Harley-Davidson dealership in US state sold as new group takes over

After more than 70 years of prosperous operation, the longest-running family-owned Harley-Davidson dealership in the United States was sold.

As they prepare to retire, the Harley-loving owners have passed on their legacy to a dealership group.

Since 1961, the Cox family has owned and run the store in the Charlotte, North Carolina, suburb of Rock Hill, South Carolina.

That is, until this past week, motorbike enthusiast and budding automotive sensation Carson Baker finally signed the dotted line.

One of the owners, Jan Cox, is now anticipating retirement and hopes Baker will have the same kind of success that her family has.

According to Cox, “We had a strong run catering to riders from York County, Charlotte, Greenville, Myrtle Beach, and beyond,” PowerSports Business reported.

“It is our hope that the new owner will be welcomed as they continue this service.”

Cox thanked their customers and said she was excited to watch the family’s second business in Asheboro, North Carolina.

“The loyalty and dedication you gave us was abundant and appreciated,” she stated.

“We look forward to what the future holds for our Asheboro location.”

Recil Cox started the family business, but in order to maintain it, he had to work his day job at a textile factory.

Recil was able to devote himself full-time to the passion project after the Harley business began to produce a profit.

“Three generations of business ownership is hard to find these days,” said Stephen Cox, who oversees the family’s other Asheboro location.

“Unmatched customer loyalty and a team who works with dignity and embraces both the Cox brand and Harley-Davidson, well, that’s pretty special.”

As part of his expanding dealership portfolio, Baker has now rebranded the establishment Dog House Harley-Davidson of Rock Hill.

According to the proprietor, he “lives and breathes” car sales and has no intention of ceasing.

In January, he told PowerSports Business, “We’re still looking for more stores; still trying to put deals together.”

“This is what I live and breathe. Every day of the week, I work. I adore it.

“I’m very proud of our team.”
