Historic college football stadium looks unrecognizable and under blanket of snow days before huge playoff game

Snowy conditions have made a historically significant college football stadium appear inconspicuous.

One of the first expanded playoff games will take place at Beaver Stadium, home of the Penn State Nittany Lions.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will host the Indiana Hoosiers on Friday to kick off the new College Football Playoff system.

The Georgia Bulldogs will play the victor of the game.

Three more first-round playoff games are scheduled for the next day, including the Penn State vs. SMU Mustangs game at Beaver Stadium, which has experienced a lot of snow lately.

Mark Brennan from 247 Sports shared a picture of the snow-covered venue on X on Monday.

“Early playoff week White Out conditions at Beaver Stadium,” the Penn State author stated.

The iconic Beaver Stadium was coated in snow, and the sight of it captivated the fans.

One person said, “Such a beautiful view,”

“Let’s go!” wrote another.

A third said, “The playoff snow games are going to be so glorious.”

“Give me more snow!” exclaimed a fourth.

The State College, Pennsylvania game on Saturday doesn’t seem to be in danger of snow.

Temperatures for the noon kickoff will be in the mid to upper 20s, so it will be a cold one.

Additionally, it will be in the tens of degrees.

Beaver Stadium can accommodate 106,572 people and built in 1960.

How the 12-team CFP works

On Friday, December 20, the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff will begin.

Who will enter, though?

The highest four ranked conference champions will all be guaranteed a first-round bye into the quarterfinals around New Year.

Even if they are not among the top 12 teams in the country, the fifth-highest conference champion will also be guaranteed a spot.

This guarantees a champion from a conference in the second tier will have the opportunity to compete for the national title.

On Friday, December 20, or Saturday, December 21, teams ranked five through eight will host a first-round playoff game.

Additionally, they will face the nine- through twelve-seeded teams.

The CFP committee determines all of these rankings and seedings, among other things, by looking at schedule strength and record.

The National Championship Game this year will be held in Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, on Monday, January 20.

In the Western Hemisphere, it is the second-largest stadium.

The Mustangs and Nittany Lions have identical 11-2 records going into the contest.

But after losing to Ohio State earlier in the season and losing to the Oregon Ducks by one score in the Big 10 championship game, Penn State comes into the game as the overwhelming favorite.
