Many tall nutcrackers crafted for display at Brightmoor Lights Holiday Festival

You won’t find a nutcracker shaped like a sugar plum fairy or a penguin anywhere else. Michael Jackson or an HBCU drum major? Brightmoor Park is prepared for the spotlight, but it’s not quite showtime yet.

DETROIT (FOX 2):You won’t find a nutcracker shaped like a sugar plum fairy or a penguin anywhere else. Michael Jackson or an HBCU drum major?

Brightmoor Park is prepared for the spotlight, but it’s not quite showtime yet. There will be a number of extravagant 12-foot-tall nutcrackers at the Brightmoor Lights Holiday Festival this weekend.

This is one of District 1’s parks. “It’s in the Brightmoor area,” Karla Williamson, the manager of the Department of Neighborhoods District 1, stated. I decided to use duct tape for mine. I’m hoping it’s weatherproof. Isn’t it merely a work of love? In any case, it’s what I do for Detroit. After that, I got the chance to collaborate with artists to simply express our passion for art and have it on display.

As a tribute to her sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Incorporated, Karen Robinson’s Nutcracker is attractive in pink.

“I m supporting this community because I think Michael Williams has such a good vision for this community that I wanted to be a part of it, even though it may be a little small, I wanted to show that everybody cares,” Robinson said. “It s named Chili, and the reason why I chose Chili is because it is chilly out here!”

Michael Williams, the organizer, lights up Darcy and Burgess Streets for passing cars each year. The nutcrackers will remain on exhibit until the third of January.

“It s a beautiful thing for him to provide the platform for all of these artists to come together,” said artist Christopher Gillam.

Despite being made from everyday objects, the backstories of these pieces of art are as personal as Gillam’s.

Brandon Hudson of FOX 2 questioned, “You said this was named after your brother?”

“Yes. My brother died. He drowned. He was just twenty-eight. Gillam answered, “He would love this, boy.”
