Judge denies Oxford High School shooter’s motion for resentencing

FOX 2, Pontiac, Mich.A judge rejected the shooter’s plea withdrawal and resentencing motions from Oxford High School.

Judge Kwam Rowe denied the shooter’s motions in two rulings on Thursday.

In his initial ruling, Rowe rejected the shooter’s request to revoke his guilty plea. Rowe rejected his resentencing motion in his second opinion.

“The Court finds that Defendant s plea was knowingly, voluntarily, and accurately given and there was no defect in the plea-taking process,” Rowe stated. “The Court finds that Defendant s sentence is constitutional and proportionate to the seriousness of the offense and the offender.”

In a school shooting that rocked Oxford and Metro Detroit in 2021, the 15-year-old shot and killed four of his classmates: Madisyn Baldwin, Tate Myre, Justin Shilling, and Hana St. Juliana.

He was charged with 24 counts, including 12 counts of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, four counts of First-Degree Premeditated Murder, seven counts of Assault with Intent to Murder, and Terrorism Causing Death.

In 2022, Ethan Crumbley entered a guilty plea.

On Dec. 8, 2023, Rowe sentenced him to life in prison without the prospect of release.
