Thief behind Plymouth ballet company’s stolen trailer arrested, charged with larceny

After 40 years of ‘The Nutcracker’ props in Plymouth being taken by thieves, the community rallies to assist.

(FOX 2) Canon Township, MichiganA local theatrical company’s trailer containing ballet materials and equipment was taken, leading to the arrest and charging of an Ohio man.

The 20-year-old Toledo, Ohio resident Brandon Keel was charged with theft and receiving and hiding stolen property at his arraignment.

Over a month ago, the Plymouth Ballet Company reported that their trailer was stolen overnight from the 8100 block of Ronda Drive in Canton Township.

The “Nutcracker” show, which was performed by over 80 children in the area, featured stage props.

According to a Plymouth Ballet Company member, the assistance of other nearby studios allowed them to perform even without the props. Additionally, more than $18,000 was raised through a GoFundMe to purchase a new trailer.

Keel was located and taken into custody on December 17; three days later, he appeared before a court in Plymouth Township. He was arraigned on counts of stealing another trailer from Plymouth Township in addition to the one involving the stolen trailer from the ballet company.

A $20,000 cash bond with a required tether was issued to him.

Law enforcement from Canton Township, Plymouth Township, the Toledo police department, and the Monroe County sheriff’s department assisted in his identification.
