Carmelo Anthony lining up shock new career venture as NBA icon is in talks with multiple networks over broadcast role

Prior to the 2024–25 NBA season, CARMELO Anthony is being considered for a new broadcast position.

Since declaring his retirement from professional basketball last year, the 40-year-old 10-time NBA All-Star has not been active in the media.

However, Anthony might soon establish himself as a regular feature ahead of a change in the NBATV scene.

According to Front Office Sports, the former New York Knicks player is negotiating to join the studio teams of NBA newcomers NBC and Amazon PrimeVideo.

Taylor Rooks has been engaged by Amazon to serve as the spokesperson for their coverage thus far.

The 32-year-old may possibly join Blake Griffin and Dirk Nowitski on Prime’s revamped NBA team.

Meanwhile, Jamal Crawford, a former employee of TNT Sports, is said to have reached an agreement with NBC.

ESPN is in transition after agreeing to a new 11-year, $77 billion broadcast contract with the NBA.

As part of a massive talent purge in 2023, channel executives chose to fire Mark Jackson and Jeff Van Gundy, the former long-time top team.

Doc Rivers and Doris Burke were chosen to take their position.

ESPN looked to JJ Redick after Rivers left to take over as head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks.

Who will be chosen to join Mike Breen and Burke when the playoffs roll around is still up in the air.

New rights deal

Three networks and the NBA inked an 11-year agreement for the league’s rights starting in 2025–2026.

Additionally, for the first time since the network’s 1988 debut, TNT will not be hosting any games.

ESPN and ABC will continue to broadcast the league’s 80 regular-season games, according to The Walt Disney Company.

The NBA Finals will continue to be held there, along with about 18 playoff games from the first and second rounds and a Conference Finals series for ten of the eleven years.

For the first time since 2002, NBC will broadcast the NBA again.

Up to 100 games will be broadcast on the network’s channels and Peacock streaming service each season.

In addition, it will host NBA All-Star games and include about 28 first- and second-round playoff games.

NBC will alternate with upstart broadcaster Amazon Prime to telecast one Conference Finals Series for six of the eleven years.

66 NBA regular-season games, including one on Black Friday, will be available on Amazon.

The complete Play-In Tournament and the final stages of the NBA Cup are also available on the streaming service.

Additionally, about one-third of the first- and second-round playoff games will be televised on Prime.
