Massive volcanic eruptions did not cause the extinction of dinosaurs, according to a new study

According to a study, dinosaurs survived a series of severe volcanic explosions that are frequently cited as the reason for their extinction.

It strengthens the argument that 66 million years ago, an asteroid colliding with Earth wiped them off.

The study concentrated on eruptions that occurred on the Indian peninsula 30,000 years before to the impact of the asteroid.

They caused the earth to cool by 5C by releasing gasses and dust into the atmosphere.

However, the researchers claim that its effects, which were tiny in comparison to the asteroid impact, had subsided within 10,000 years and had little to no impact on the demise of the dinosaurs.

To piece together what the climate would have been like, a team from the Universities of Manchester and Utrecht examined fossil peats.

According to Dr. Lauren O. Connor of Utrecht University, volcanic CO2 emissions most certainly contributed to the period of global warming.

According to her, life on Earth would have suffered greatly as a result of these volcanic eruptions and the resulting CO2 and sulfur emissions.

However, these occurrences occurred thousands of years before to the meteorite impact and most likely had a minor role in the extinction of dinosaurs.
