Is Honey browser extension safe and should I uninstall the tool?
Influencers have heavily promoted the browser plugin HONEY, which helps users find deals.
Here’s what we know, though: the software that looks too good to be true is being accused of deceptive methods.
What is Honey?
In 2012, Honey was established, and by 2014, the extension had grown rapidly, with over 900,000 users.
Honey assured me that even if you missed the discount codes, they would be applied automatically.
According to Deepak Tailor, the creator of LatestFreeStuff.co.uk, every browser should have a free discount code browser plugin. It’s the most crucial item you could have, in my opinion, after ad blockers. It’s similar to free money.
A small pop-up indicating that there might be some discount codes available will appear while you are on a store’s website and have the Chrome extension installed for free. You can test the codes at checkout to determine whether they result in any financial savings.

With the help of these extensions, you may avoid conducting tedious Google searches and visiting numerous coupon websites. It’s exactly where you want it to be.
Numerous well-known influencers, such as Mr. Beast and Marques Brownlee, have pushed the program.
PayPalin 2020 purchased it for $4 billion and changed its name to PayPalHoney.
What has Honey been accused of?
In a recent video, YouTuber MegaLag asserted that Honey only shows certain discount coupons when customers check out.
This is said to give preference to those that benefit its business partners above superior offers for users.
MegaLag clarified that even when larger reductions, like 30%, are offered, Honey occasionally displays smaller discounts, like 5% off.
Honey collaborates with companies that control which codes are advertised, which could be expensive for customers.
Additionally, he said that these acts go against the extension’s guarantee that the best deals would be found automatically.
Does this impact influencers who promote Honey?
MegaLag asserted that the plugin ensures Honey, not the influencers, gets credit for sales earned through affiliate connections.
Because of this, influencers are deprived of the compensation that they would typically receive for promoting these revenue-generating transactions.
On X, the platform that was formerly known as Twitter, users attacked Honey for what they saw as predatory behavior.
One user advised removing the Honey browser plugin if you were using it. Customers, brands, and content producers all suffer from this predatory behavior.
Another brought attention to earlier security issues with Honey that Amazon had brought up, saying, “This MegaLag video demonstrates in detail how Honey is outright stealing commissions from YouTubers.”
PayPal and Honey have not yet responded to these claims.
Should you uninstall Honey?
Although it is up to the user to decide whether or not to remove Honey, experts have cautioned consumers that these allegations do not present a positive image of the business.
Given the allegations, it has been stated that Honey is no longer trustworthy.

Customers may choose to wait and see what is mentioned before making a decision because there hasn’t been an official statement on this yet.
However, there are alternative methods of comparing prices, such as simply browsing about before making a purchase.
