ESPN host fights back tears live on air after 41-year-old colleague dies just days before Christmas
Following the passing of a cherished coworker, ESPN host Randy Scott battled back emotions while live on air.
The anchor revealed Zach Jones’ death a few days before Christmas while he was on SportsCenter.
The 41-year-old had been bravely battling colorectalcancerfor the past two years.
Zach was a research manager with 14 years of ESPN experience.
His 10-year-old son Silas and wife Amber were left behind after he tragically passed away on Sunday.
In a heartfelt homage to his beloved coworker, Scott took to the air on Monday.

“ESPN lost one of our own yesterday,” he informed the audience.
“Research manager Zach Jones died Sunday after a two-year fight with colorectal cancer that had metastasized before his diagnosis.
It’s possible that you haven’t ever seen him on your displays.
“However, his work was featured on our SportsCenter broadcasts, live golf coverage, and women’s college basketball coverage.
He began working here as a researcher in 2010 and became a member of the statistics and information group’s management team in 2018.
More significantly, though, he married here.
“He started a family here.”
Scott had to gather himself during the part as he was clearly moved.
“The Stanford graduate loved the Cardinal and he loved golf,” he continued.
“He loved his wife Amber.

“I saw Zach in the cafeteria just a couple of weeks ago, he was hopeful and he was also reflective.
“He said he just wanted his family to be OK after a recent move toTexas.
“He fought like hell. He gets to rest now. We love you buddy.”
SportsCenter anchor Kevin Negandhi also paid his own tribute onsocial media site X.
“May you rest in peace Zach. A devoted dad who loved golf, the Chargers and his family,” he said.
“He was a fantastic researcher and had the perfect demeanor for TV.
