Brandon Joseph waived by Lions hours after he was detained by Dearborn Heights police

On December 21, Brandon Joseph, a second-year player, was waived a few hours after being arrested by Dearborn Heights police on suspicion of driving under the influence.

(Fox 2) Dearborn Heights, MichiganJust hours after being arrested by Dearborn Heights police on charges of driving under the influence and speeding, former Lions safety Brandon Joseph was released.

Prior to their trip to Chicago, where they defeated the Bears 34–17, the team said that the second-year player had been dismissed as part of a number of roster changes on Saturday.

Before being waived, Joseph had participated in all 14 games. The Dearborn Heights Police Department detained him for “several hours” before cutting him, though the team did not disclose the reason.

Joseph was cooperative and didn’t make a commotion during the stop or while being held, according to Paul Vanderplow, a director with the Dearborn Heights Police Department. He was freed pending the outcome of a blood test without any charges being brought.

Last year, as an undrafted rookie free agent, Joseph made his debut for the team. Despite playing in two games, he spent the majority of the season on the practice squad. He largely played on special teams this season, but he did start one game when Brian Branch was hurt. Although he had a preseason interception, his regular season stats were quite low.

Joseph recorded six tackles in the first victory over the Packers and six tackles in a start against Seattle. Other than that, he recorded a pass deflection against Jacksonville and one tackle against the Titans. He did not register any statistics for the remaining games he participated in.
