Christmas Eve horror as man armed with knife is shot dead by cops after five-hour standoff

According to COPS, armed police officers shot and killed a 39-year-old man on Christmas Eve.

The event that happened yesterday on Fownhope Close in Redditch, Worcestershire, has been described by West Mercia Police.

After serious concerns were voiced, cops were called to the site at around 2:00 pm.

Fearing for the safety of a man with a knife, the West Midlands Ambulance Service arrived first.

After a police negotiator tried to negotiate the issue for several hours, the man was shot by armed police at around 7.40 p.m.

He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 8:00 p.m., when it is thought that no one else was present at the address.

In light of what transpired last evening, West Mercia Police have immediately referred the matter to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC).

“This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts are with everyone affected at this difficult time,” said Assistant Chief Constable Grant Wills.

“We want to reassure the local community that we are taking all necessary steps, including promptly referring them to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), as required and right. We do not undervalue the shock and anxiety this may cause.

“We will support their investigation, which will include providing all information we hold, including body worn camera footage.”
