Drivers have only days left to snag sticker that slashes price of tolls before new 2025 law hikes fee

Customers will need an NC Quick Pass starting on New Year’s Day in order to use North Carolina’s toll roadways.
Starting on January 1, the North Carolina Turnpike Authority will raise its toll prices, however not all drivers will pay the same amount.
You will save money and get a 50% toll rate discount on Tar Heel State roadways if you obtain an NC Quick Pass.
This represents an increase over the current 35% savings.

A new NC Only Account type that can be used for travel within the state is being introduced.
Customers who receive an invoice between November 11, 2024, and February 28, 2025, will receive around 300,000 free transponders.
The pre-paid balance threshold for new accounts has been reduced from $20 to $10 in an effort to assist drivers even more.
Additionally, the authority announced new collaborations with 7-Eleven fueling stores near toll booths where transponders are available for purchase.
As an alternative, transponders can be bought on Amazon.
According to the authority, there’s a reason why it encourages drivers to get an NC Quick Pass account.
The authority claims that collecting tolls from consumers who do not have an account is about three times more expensive than doing so for those who do.
The purpose of the additional fee hike is to increase the burden on clients who have opted out of having accounts.

The new program has the potential to help more than simply North Carolina drivers.
Discounts on toll roads in 18 additional states are also available to those who choose to use transponders and a basic Quick Pass account.
Georgia, Virginia, and Florida are among them.
It occurs weeks after it was disclosed that a “smishing” fraud alert had been issued for the NC Quick Pass.
The FBI claims that smishing happens when phony text messages deceive recipients into giving money to hackers, downloading malware, or disclosing private information.
In the most recent Quick Pass scam, drivers were notified via text that they owed outstanding tolls by a number posing as the toll company.
