(FOX 2):On Friday, the owners of the three dogs that killed a six-year-old Detroit father were sentenced. The male defendant was given prison time, while his wife was placed on probation.
For the death of Harold Phillips, who was attacked by Roy Goodman’s dogs in Detroit in January of last year, Goodman will be sentenced to 30 months to 15 years in jail.
Trevina Goodman was placed on three years of probation, which includes community service requirements and an animal-free policy.
On the day Phillips was killed, Roy Goodman acknowledged letting the dogs go loose in the yard. Additionally, he admitted to police that they had escaped because he knew the fence’s latch was broken.
Following the dogs’ escape through an unguarded gate, the attack occurred in January of last year in the vicinity of West Chicago and Longacre.

Following the mauling, Phillips was put on life support. He was on his way back after a trip to the mall to buy clothes for a job interview that was scheduled for January 29.
On February 2, he passed away.
Harold’s wife, Shauntaye Phillips, informed the judge before the sentencing that she had been crying every day since her husband passed away.
“I never imagined having to watch him die so tragically – I’m just trying to do the best I can for my kids now, because it’s so hard to grow without a parent,” she continued.
Some of the Phillips children’s statements were also read by her.
The victim’s child’s godmother, Roxanne Clark, also spoke, recalling the day she took the kids to the hospital to bid their father farewell.
She recounted telling Harold Phillips about the injuries and said, “I could hear their fear,” in the courtroom. “Being a dog owner holds just as much responsibility as being a parent.”
Three dogs attacked Harold Phillips of Detroit on Monday night, leaving him on life support. His family is requesting assistance.
