Tyreek Hill quits Miami Dolphins and star WR breaks silence and head coach Mike McDaniel sends him clear message
Tyreek Hill, the top wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins, openly discussed his future with his current organization.
After the Miami Dolphins’ season ended on Sunday with a 32–20 loss to the New York Jets, the eight-time NFL Pro Bowler hinted that his time with the team might be coming to an end.
When Hill spoke to reporters following the season-finale road loss, he was straightforward.
The Miami wide receiver, 30, stated, “This is the first time I haven’t participated in the playoffs.”
“I simply have to act in my family’s and my own best interests. I’m going to open that door for myself, whether it’s here or somewhere else. I’m going to open the door. I’m going out, dude.
“I had a terrific time playing here, but I had to do what would help my career in the end, bro. I’m too competitive to just be out there.”

After playing in just 11 games due to a concussion and a hip ailment, Hill lamented the absence of quarterback Tua Tagovai during the season, saying it “sucks” to be without the 2023 Pro Bowler.
When questioned by reporters about Hill’s suggestion to leave the team, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said that he will talk to his player shortly.
“I’m not going to [put] too much weight on second-hand, postgame disappointment statements,” McDaniel stated.
“We will see how (the)nextcouple days progress in convos with him and I.”
In the game on Sunday, Hill only had two receptions for 20 yards.
He caught 81 passes for 959 yards and six touchdowns at the end of the season.
For the first time since he was with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019, Hill’s club failed to surpass 1,000 receiving yards.
The nine-year NFL veteran told reporters that he had been battling a wrist problem all 2024, and that he was benched from Sunday’s game to prevent the injury from getting worse.
After the Denver Broncos defeated the Chiefs to secure the final playoff place, it was decided that Miami would not make it to the postseason.
Hill’s 2025 salary is $27.7, and he has a contract for the next two seasons.
Before the 2022 season, the 30-year-old was traded to Miami after requesting a leave of absence from Kansas City.
The Chiefs are now the top seed in the AFC and have won two Super Bowls since then.
During his time with the Dolphins, the team has yet to win a postseason game, and Hill just finished his worst season in terms of statistics.
